The Goodman City Council officially voted on Tuesday night to permanently take down the city's Facebook page.
A state statute requires cities to have their Facebook posts archived, should anyone request a copy of posts and activities.
Last month, city clerk Karla McNorton told aldermen that if someone posts a comment on the city's Facebook page and then deletes it, the city has to make that archived information available if someone requests a copy.
Officials researched companies who perform archiving duties for cities. The price tag was $200 a month. McNorton told aldermen the city would have to become compliant with the state statute or delete the page.
While officials were weighing in on the subject, the city's Facebook was temporarily taken down.
On Tuesday night, the city council voted to forgo social media and save taxpayers $2,400 a year.
In other business:
• City Supervisor David Brodie said he was preparing to winterize the ballpark.
• Officials learned that the school will move the fireplug on Whitmore. Its current location, at the end of the railroad tracks, will impede bus traffic.
• McNorton said the city office will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veterans Day.
• Officials plan to hold the first budget meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 21.
• Officials approved the minutes of the first Planning and Zoning Committee meeting.
