Yoga 101 Workshop Will Help Hopeful Exercisers

A yoga workshop will help people realize the benefits they can derive if they take the time to learn, move and use their muscles.

Certified yoga teacher Andrea Blair said the workshop -- set for Saturday -- will give participants a chance to learn about the basics of yoga.

Yoga is a fitness option for people who can't do high impact exercises, she said. While there's a variety of yoga styles out there, Blair will showcase the interesting aspects of power yoga, which connects the muscles with breathing.

Blair will show how to engage muscles while moving through various poses.

Yoga has been shown to help improve balance, lower back relief, attitude, flexibility, depression, anxiety and focus, Blair said.

Knowing the basics of yoga can benefit those who are interested in pursuing the exercise.

"Then they can go to a yoga class and they'll have an understanding of it," she said.

The Yoga 101 Workshop is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at 916 N. Highway 59, between the Thai Café and Family Dollar in Anderson.

Blair also leads a Yoga Flow I class at 5:15 on Tuesday afternoons, and a Yoga Flow II class at 6:30.

Cost for the workshop is $12. Handouts and freebies will be available.
