Veterans' Information Sought For Special Program

The McDonald County Historical Society is still seeking veterans' information and photos for a special candlelighting ceremony on Nov. 11.

Some information has trickled in, but organizers hope to secure more photos and facts needed for the unique program.

"There is going to be a lot of ceremony," said Historical Society president Karen Dobbs. "It's going to be a memorable and respectful service," she said. "We're looking forward to the special ceremony."

All veterans, their families and the general public are welcome to the ceremony, which will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Pineville Community Center.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, and organizers of the local ceremony will join with others across the country in honoring those who served and sacrificed.

More than four million American families sent their sons and daughters to serve in uniform during the Great War, Dobbs said.

During that time, more than 382 soldiers from McDonald County answered the call to service. Seventeen of those soldiers sacrificed their lives.

The candlelighting ceremony will honor all veterans, with special remembrance of the 17 who sacrificed, she said.

Any family member or anyone who has information or photos of the following soldiers is asked to contact the Historical Society.

Soldiers to be honored include: Walter Baldwin, Goodman; Basil W. Brown, Pineville; Clancey E. Bunch, Pineville; Raymond M. Carney, Anderson; William P. Cover, Anderson; Everette A. Crispin, Noel; James O. Emery, Pineville; Albert B. Hackney, Pineville; Albert Hopkins, Rocky Comfort; Joseph F. Hutchinson, Anderson; Marion T. Legore, Cyclone; Virgil F.
