Power-Hitting Lady Bulldogs Take Districts

The Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs used a first-round win over McDonald County as a stepping stone to the championship of the Missouri Class 4, District 11, Volleyball Tournament held Oct. 23-25 at Joplin High School.

The power-hitting Lady Bulldogs beat McDonald County 25-13 and 25-8 on Oct. 23 in the opening round.

Carl Junction broke away from a 6-6 tie in the first set by scoring five out of the next six points to take an 11-7 lead. McDonald County trailed 15-10 before the Lady Bulldogs scored 10 of the final 13 points to win the first set, 25-13.

In the second set, Carl Junction jumped out to an 11-3 lead and cruised to a 25-8 win.

The Lady Bulldogs then upset Webb City in the semifinals and Carthage in the championship match on Oct. 25 to win the district title.

McDonald County ends the 2018 season with a 2-27 record.
