Corbin Jones had to survive a coach's challenge in order to be the McDonald County High School track team's lone Big 8 Conference champion.

Jones and Mount Vernon's Andrew Montemayor were stride-for-stride throughout the 100-meter dash, but timers at the finish line awarded the win to Jones (11.2) with Montemayor in second, a tenth of a second back.

Following the race, Mount Vernon protested the decision, but a panel of judges from four other Big 8 Conference schools allowed the decision to stand.

The Mustangs got three individual second places, one each from Huechi Xiong, Zack Woods and Elliot Wolfe, and another in a relay.

Xiong and Woods tied for second in the pole vault by clearing 12-6. Wolfe took second in the shot put with a throw of 45-7.5.

The 4x800 relay team of Elijah Habert, Garrett Spears, Cale Adamson and Alex Guadarrama was second in a time of 8:42.7

Earning third-place medals were Peyton Barton in the discus (141-7), Michael Williams in the long jump (19-11) and Cole DelosSantos in the 300 hurdles (43.6).

Rounding out the boys' top six finishers were John Howard, fourth, 400, 54.5; Cale Adamson, fifth, 400, 55.1; Habert, fourth, 800, 2:10.9; Spears, fourth, 1600, 5:04.3; David Lazalde, fourth, 3200, 10:44.1; DelosSantos, sixth, 110 hurdles, 17.6; Joel Morris, fourth, 110 hurdles, 17.5; Jones, Howard, Saul Garcia and Francisco Jasso, fifth, 4x100, 46.8; Logan Renner, Howard, Garcia and DelosSantos, sixth, 4x200, 1:40.7; Adamson, Howard, DelosSantos and Habert, fifth, 4x400, 3:48.3; Williams, fourth, triple jump, 39-8.5; Bucky Harrell, triple jump, fifth, 38-9; Wolfe, discus, fourth, 135-9; and Lane Pointer, shot put, fifth, 41-6.25.

Lamar won the boys' team title with 171 points. Monett was second with 100, followed by McDonald County with 99, East Newton 76, Cassville 68, Mount Vernon 40, Aurora 28.5 and Seneca 6.5.

Girls' Division

Cassadi Dowd's second place in the 800 (2:30.5) was the Lady Mustangs' best finish. Dowd added a fourth in the 1600 (6:07.4) and ran a leg on the 4x800 relay that took third in 10:50.2 and the 4x400 relay that took fourth (4:32.9).

Dowd was joined on the two relays by Ragan Wilson, Adyson Sanny and Addy Mick. Mick added a second place in the 3200 (13:46.1) and a third in the 1600 (6:07.1), while Wilson took fourth in the 400 (1:05.5).

Ruby Palomo was sixth in the 300 hurdles (53.2) and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay that was fifth (54.9) and the 4x200 team that took fourth (1:54.5). She was joined on both relays by Erin Cooper, Caitlyn Barton and Rita Santillan.

Barton added a fourth in the pole vault (9-0).

Rounding out the Lady Mustangs' top six finishes were Jordan Witt, fifth, long jump, 15-7 and fifth, triple jump, 32-9.25; Emily Landers, sixth, shot put, 31-10.25 and sixth, discus, 91-4; Chloe Teague, sixth, pole vault, 8-6; and Broooklyn Winters, sixth, 3200, 14:31.7.

Lamar made it a sweep by also winning the girls' division. The Lady Tigers had 159 points, followed by Monett with 117, Cassville 82, Mount Vernon 66, East Newton 64, McDonald County 61, Seneca 26.5 and Aurora 11.5.

McDonald County's next meet is the Class 4, District 6, Track and Field Championships set for May 12 at Carl Junction High School.
