Joe Cephus Sams Sr.

Joe Cephus Sams Sr., 67, of Anderson, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 3, 1950, in Bonner Springs, Kan., to Archie Joseph and Dorothy Elizabeth (Reynolds) Sams. His formative years were spent in Newton County, Ark. On June 5, 1970, he married Helen Bottoms; they moved to McDonald County, Mo., in 1981. He was employed by Tyson Foods. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and simply being outdoors. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Idus Sams; a sister, Ovie Huber; and two infant siblings, Archie Joseph Sams Jr. and Myrtle Sams.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Helen Sams of the home; four children, Rebecca Sams of Vinita, Okla., Joe C. Sams Jr., Nikki Sams and Alicia Sams all of Anderson; four grandchildren; one brother, Orvid Sams of Ava, Mo.; and three sisters, Modena Wise of Tonganoxie, Kan., Unice Corney of Deer, Ark., and Billie Chapman of Lowell, Ark.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at the Charity United Baptist Church near Ponca, Ark., with Pastor Robert Huber officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery in rural Newton County, Ark.

Charles Stephen White, 70, of Pineville, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at his residence.

He was born on May 29, 1947, in Rogers, Ark., to Edward and Lucetta (Huff) White. He married Andrea Arnold on June 13, 1992, in Janesville, Wis. He served his country in the U.S. Army for five years, stationed in Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the VFW Post 1621 in Janesville and the American Legion in Beloit, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy White; daughter, Angela White; and granddaughter, Paula Banks.

Survivors include his wife, Andrea White of the home; five children, Tamara Franks of Rogers, Ark., Stephen White of Hot Springs, Ark., Kenneth White of Rogers, Machelle Banks of Oklahoma and Belinda White of Tulsa, Okla.; and six grandchildren.

A visitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Home. Cremation followed the service.

Jewell Dickerson Woodfill

Jewell Dickerson Woodfill, 94, of Lockwood, Calif., died Feb. 1, 2018, peacefully at home.

She was born in Glendive, Mont., on Feb. 19, 1923, and grew up in western Oklahoma before moving to Missouri in her early teens. She married Robert Woodfill in 1941. They bought a home in Grove, Okla., in 2004. She married John Anderton in 2012.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Robert; daughter, Joyce; and second husband, John.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Susan) and Randy (Patricia); and five grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in the Tracy Cemetery, east of Anderson, Mo., with Elder Mitch Elmer of the Midway Missionary Baptist Church in Fairland, Okla., officiating.
