McDonald County Baseball Scores One Win In Branson Showcase

The McDonald County 18U baseball team won its first game of the Branson Showcase but proceeded to lose its final four games in the tournament.

McDonald County used four pitchers on the way to claiming a 10-8 win over Central Missouri Phantom Gray on June 7.

Izak Johnson started and went two innings before Lee Sohse relieved in the third inning. Sohse was followed to the mound by Sampson Boles, who got the win with one inning of relief. Joe Brown pitched the seventh for the save.

Sohse led the offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Oakley Roessler had a double and scored three runs. Cole Martin had a hit and drove in a run.

Republic

In the second game of the doubleheader, McDonald County dropped a 9-0 decision to Republic. Cade Smith threw four innings, and Nevin Price worked the final three innings.

Boles provided the only offense for McDonald County, pounding out four hits in four at-bats.

Ozark

Ozark handed McDonald County a 6-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on June 8.

Johnson allowed one run in one inning before Kammeron Hopkins allowed five runs over the final five innings. Brown had a pair of hits to lead the offense.

Jefferson City

In its final game of pool play, McDonald County dropped a 16-1 decision to Jefferson City.

Boles worked the first three innings and Sohse the final three. Brown drove in the only McDonald County run.

Forsyth

Forsyth scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and held on for a 4-3 win on June 9 in bracket play.

Martin led off the first with a single, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brown to give McDonald County a 1-0 lead. Forsyth tied the game in the second off McDonald County starting pitcher, Oakley Roessler.

The game was tied 1-1 until the fifth when Forsyth scored three runs off Roessler and Casey Sade. Johnson hit a two-run homer in the seventh to get McDonald County within a run, but Forsyth held on for the win.

Neosho

Neosho scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie for a 4-3 win on June 5 at McDonald County High School.

Neosho took a 1-0 lead in the first off of McDonald County starter Oakley Roessler. McDonald County answered in the bottom of the second with two runs for a 2-1 lead.

Johnson walked and Shaver singled him to third before a double steal plated the first run. Roessler then singled with two outs to give McDonald County the lead.

Neosho took a 3-2 lead in the fourth, but McDonald County tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the sixth. Boston Dowd and Brown singled before Charlie Moore drove in the tying run with a groundout.

Hopkins relieved Roessler in the sixth and shut out Neosho in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings before Neosho scored the winning run in the ninth on a walk, a single and a wild pitch.

McDonald County's next action is the Grove Tournament set for June 16-17.
