Community Feels Welcome At 'Unchained' Event

Grace-Life Church in Anderson continues to reach out to the community through "Saturday Night Un-Chained."

The monthly event features a free dinner, music, the Word of God and fellowship.

"Saturday Night Un-Chained" is a way of reaching out to the community and to help neighbors feel welcome, said the church's youth pastor, Bill Laughard.

The church hosts the dinner, with a live band, for anyone who wants to attend, he said.

The monthly dinners are usually held at the pavilion at Town Hole in Anderson. The event is a growing outreach to which the community is responding well. At the most recent event, volunteers served 100 sandwiches and 60 hot dogs, Laughard said.

"Those who come let us know they enjoy it," Laughard said. "We have been told many times that our community needs more of this. And we agree."

Organizers hope to reach neighbors -- those who have a home church and those who don't.

"We want to see our community become unified," Laughard said. "And the only way we see a chance of that is through Jesus -- by showing His love to those who need it and by sharing His word and truth with all who come to enjoy fellowship with us."

The next event is set for Saturday, June 16, at Town Hole in Anderson.

The free meal begins at 5:30 p.m., with music and the Word of God to follow. Those who attend can then enjoy more music and fellowship.

On July 7, the church will host the event at the Grace-Life Church parking lot, 258 Royce Drive in Anderson.

On Aug. 18 and Sept. 15, the event will take place at Town Hole.
