Seventh Grade, Two of Three

The McDonald County seventh grade boys basketball team beat Mount Vernon 29-18 on Jan. 12 in Mount Vernon to improve its record to 3-2 for the season.

McDonald County jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 13-6 at halftime before the Mountaineers closed to 15-13 at the end of three quarters.

Weston Gordon scored 13 points to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Jack Parnell with six points, Sterling Woods and Dalton McClain four each and Logan Solomon two.

Mount Vernon won the two-quarter B game by a 10-9 score. McDonald County scoring was as follows: Jaxson Harrell three points and Tucker Gill, Braxton Spears and Solomon two each.

Neosho

Neosho handed the Mustangs their second loss of the season with a 27-15 win on Jan. 8 at Neosho.

The Wildcats built an 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched its margin to 20-5 at halftime and 25-5 at the end of three quarters.

Woods scored nine points to lead the Mustangs, followed by Gordon with four and Solomon with two.

Neosho made it a sweep with a 46-18 win in the B game. Harrell led the Mustangs with eight points, followed by Ivan Serna with six, Solomon three and Andrew Moritz one.

East Newton

McDonald County took a 23-10 lead at halftime and held on for a 33-24 win over East Newton on Jan. 9 at East Newton High School.

Gordon led the Mustangs with 12 points, followed by Woods with seven, McClain and Isaac Behm five each and Harrell and Spears two each.

McDonald County won the two-quarter B game, 14-4, behind five points each from Moritz and Jacob Gordon. Eli Jordan and Spears rounded out the scoring with two points each.

McDonald County's next game is against Joplin on Jan. 18 at Pineville Junior High School. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
