Mustangs Defeat Mt. Vernon, Neosho, East Newton

The McDonald County eighth grade boys basketball team improved to 4-1 for the season with a 47-41 win over Mount Vernon at Mount Vernon Middle School. Scoring was unavailable.

Earlier in the week, the Mustangs defeated Neosho and East Newton.

On Jan. 8 at Neosho, McDonald County claimed a 48-28 decision. The Mustangs jumped out to a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter to take control of the game. McDonald County led 20-13 at halftime and 35-21 after three quarters.

Garrett Ricks, Junior Eliam and Pierce Harmon led the Mustangs with 10 points each. Matthew Mora added seven points, followed by Bo Leach with five and Cole Martin and Kolton Ruddick with three each.

McDonald County added a 38-17 win in the B game. Dylan Igosomar scored 11 points and Ruddick eight to lead the Mustangs, followed by S.J. Joseph with six, Levi Malone four, Eli McClain three and Levi Helm, Kaden Keeling and Jakobe Montes two each.

Harmon scored 11 points and Leach and Gricks had 10 each to lead McDonald County to a 46-29 win over East Newton on Jan. 9 at East Newton High School.

Martin and Mora added six each and Eliam had three to round out the scoring for the Mustangs.

In a two-quarter B game, McDonald County claimed a 19-12 decision. Joseph scored seven points and Igosomar six to lead McDonald County. Helm added four and McClain two.

McDonald County hosts Joplin on Jan. 18 in a rematch from the Mustangs' only loss this season. Game time is at 5:30 p.m. at Anderson Middle School.
