Tommie Caldwell

Tommie "Tom" Caldwell died Dec. 24, 2017, in Mildenhall, England, after a brief illness.

He was born in Anderson to Herman and Goldie Caldwell. After graduating from Anderson High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Air Force and completed basic training outside of San Francisco. While stationed at RAF Wethersfield in the United Kingdom, he met and married Catherine "Kitty" Hart of London, England, in 1959. He served in the U.S. Air Force more than 40 years and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Outstanding Civilian Career Service award.

He was preceded in death by his son, Russel; parents, Herman and Goldie; brother, Jerry; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Sue Caldwell.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Catherine of Mildenhall, England; sons, Andrew of London, and Terry and husband Scotty of Dallas, Texas; brother, Bobby of Neosho; sister, Mary Sue (Ray) Gordon of Pineville.

Charlcie Queen Cates

Charlcie Queen Cates, 98, died Jan. 1, 2018, at Cox Medical Center in Springfield from complications following a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Sheffield, Ala., to John and Nora Fell. The Fell family moved to the Puyallup, Wash., area in the late 1930s. She married Howard A. Cates on Sept. 3, 1940. The couple moved many times during their U.S. Army career, eventually coming home to McDonald County. She raised seven children and was active in Noel's United Methodist Church and many clubs. She was a talented writer and a student of astrology and yoga. She worked at the Ben Franklin store before moving to Blackfoot, Idaho, with companion Fred K. Merrel. In 2017, she moved to Crane to be close to her daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and a daughter, Charlcie Milsap.

Survivors include three sons, Allen E. Cates (Lucette) of Lafayette, La., Jerry H. Cates (Janet) of Round Rock, Texas, and John M. Cates (Jong) of Chiang Rai, Thailand; three daughters, Elizabeth A. Oakes (William), and Brenda J. Kaup (Michael), both of Crane; and Martha J. Serna (Pete), of Humble, Texas.

No formal services are planned, but the family will meet at a later date for a memorial service.

Opal Janice Davis

Opal Janice Davis (Heath), 85, of Noel, died Jan. 4, 2018, in her home.

She was born in Joplin to Elwood and Opal Allen on March 15, 1932. She graduated from Carthage High School. She married Gene A. Davis on Dec. 24, 1952, in Carthage. She received degrees in education and art from the University of Missouri and Tulsa University, as well as a master's degree in special education from Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Okla. She was an art, English and special education teacher for 58 years and also taught English language learners. She taught in public schools in Tulsa and Jay, Okla., and in Noel. She enjoyed cross stitching and sewing clothes for her daughters and granddaughter. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and sang in church choirs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; her husband; and one grandson.

She is survived by daughters, Melissa Davis Stratton (Ron) of Bella Vista, Ark., and Mary Davis Coulston (Philip) of Loveland, Colo.; a son, Gregory Allen Davis of Noel; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the United Methodist Church in Noel.

Wayne David Driver

Wayne David Driver, 70, of Anderson, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 12, 1947, in Heavener, Okla., to Franklin Samuel and Blanche (Dorsey) Driver. He married Nadine Cordray on Oct. 14, 1968. He served his country during the Vietnam War as a door gunner with the First Cavalry A-227 Division. After his honorable discharge in 1971, he and his brother bought a gas station on Highway 75, between Jenks and Sapulpa, Okla. He was a heavy hauler for Lone Star Transportation for 30 years and has resided in Anderson for the last 36 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Barbara Frye-Dean, Clayton Driver and Freddy Driver.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nadine Driver of the home; two children, David Driver (Stephanie) of Seymour, and Cassandra Teague (Arley) of Anderson; two stepchildren, Danny Bacon (Tamara) and Connie Roberts (Mark); and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Randy Davis officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.

Arrangements are by Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson.

J. Clay Hart

J. Clay Hart, 52, of Neosho, died Jan. 2, 2018, following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 22, 1965, in Greer, S.C., and moved to the Neosho area in 1979. He worked as plant manager for George's at Butterfield and then at LaRue Telephone Company in telecommunications. He loved to sing, play pool and watch the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. He married Lisa McEntire June 7, 2014, in Stella.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife; his parents, Robert L. and Mona Hart of Neosho; his adopted mother, Dorothy McEntire; three children, Tabitha Michelle Hart and Cordell Hart of Rensselaer, Ind., and Kearstin Marie Hart of the home; four stepchildren, Kyler Anthony Ferguson of Cassville, Brandi Lynch (Aaron) of Kentucky, Justin Powell (Tamsen) and Joshua Powell (Sara), all of Alabama; two brothers, Malcolm Dwain McEntire (Joyce) of West Plains, and David Brian McEntire (Holly) of Pineville; and six grandchildren.

Funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Splitlog Baptist Church, with Roger Morey officiating. Interment followed at the Macedonia Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Clark Funeral Home of Neosho.

Howard Lee Moore

Howard Lee Moore, 68, of Anderson (formerly of Waldron, Ark.), died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, in Joplin, surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 4, 1949, to Loyd and Ruby Moore in Waldron. He was a veteran of the USAF and served in Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard and Terrell Moore; and sister, Jane Yancey.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Moore; his sons, Josh Moore, Jacob Moore and J.D. Woodcock; his brother, Leon Moore; his sisters, Julia Moore, Darlene Jacobs and Charlene Alewel; his sisters-in-law, Kay Moore, Janet Moore and Sue Moore.

His celebration of life was Saturday, Jan. 6, at Pearson Cemetery in Waldron with Pat Ray Biggs officiating. Arrangements were by Heritage Memorial Funeral Home of Waldron.
