Work is quickly continuing on a new water tower in Pineville.

City of Pineville public works crew members are providing some labor on the project. Pineville Mayor Gregg Sweeten said the crew is doing amazing work.

"Our city employees are building the concrete base for the tower in an effort to save some money on the total project," he said.

Crews poured the concrete for the base on Dec. 14 and then let it "cure" for 14 days. The next phase of pouring concrete will take place soon. Crew members will then make the third and final pour after the curing process is complete.

Those who pass by the water tower on I-49 will see a new city emblem, which will be placed on the front of the tower.

Sweeten said the water tower will benefit Pineville in a variety of ways.

"The tower will be a great addition to the city and will help not only the Pineville Pre-K School and the new housing addition going in on the hill, but will get us ready for future growth in the area," he said.

"The higher pressure and storage capacity will also help the firefighting capabilities for the fire department," he said.

The water tower should be complete early this year, Sweeten said.
