Seventh-Grade Boys BB

The McDonald County seventh-grade boys' team closed out its 2017-2018 regular season with 7-6 record after going 1-2 in the final week of the season.

Aurora

McDonald County opened the week with a 30-28 overtime loss at Aurora. McDonald County led 6-2 at the end of the first quarter and 13-8 at halftime before stretching the margin to 22-14 entering the fourth quarter.

But the Houn' Dogs used a 10-2 advantage in the final period to force overtime, where the hosts outscored McDonald County 6-4.

Weston Gordon led the Mustangs with 15 points, followed by Sterling Woods with six, Jack Parnell four, Dalton McClain two and Isaac Behm one.

The McDonald County B team dropped a 28-20 decision. Scoring totals for the Mustangs were Jaxson Harrell with six points, Andrew Moritz and Ivan Cerna four each, Eli Jordon three, Braxton Spears two and Tucker Dill one.

Cassville

McDonald County rallied in the fourth quarter for a 40-37 win over Cassville on Jan. 30 at home.

The Mustangs trailed 27-20 after three quarters, only to outscore Cassville 20-10 in the fourth quarter.

Weston Gordon led McDonald County with 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Woods added nine points, followed by Spears with six, McClain three and Parnell two.

Cassville earned a split with a 39-33 win in the B game. Ivan Cerna scored 14 points to lead the Mustangs, followed by Spears with seven, Harrell five, Dill three and McClain and Moritz two each.

Webb City

Webb City defeated McDonald County, 40-22, on Feb. 1 at Webb City in the final regular season game.

The Cardinals led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and 20-7 at halftime before taking a 28-10 lead into the final quarter.

Gordon scored 12 points for McDonald County, while Woods had seven and Behm three.

Webb City made it a sweep with a 30-24 win.

Harrell scored seven points and Cerna six to lead McDonald County, followed by Moritz with five points, Jakob Gordon three, Jordon two and Spears one.

McDonald County wraps up its season this week in the Big 8 Conference Seventh Grade Boys Tournament in Lamar.

Eighth-Grade Boys BB

The McDonald County eighth-grade boys' basketball team claimed the regular season Big 8 Conference title with a perfect 7-0 record after wins over Aurora and Cassville last week.

Aurora

McDonald County opened the week with a 37-31 win over Aurora on Jan. 29 at Aurora.

Aurora took a 6-4 lead at the end of the first quarter before McDonald County came back to take a 14-11 lead at halftime and a 26-23 lead entering the fourth quarter.

McDonald County's Bo Leach led all scorers with 18 points. Pierce Harmon added nine points for the Mustangs, followed by Garrett Gricks and Junior Eliam with three each and Colton Ruddick and Matthew Mora with two each.

The McDonald County B team added a 32-18 win. The Mustangs led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and 14-9 at halftime before stretching the margin to 22-14 entering the fourth quarter. Dylan Igosomar led McDonald County with eight points, followed by Devin Swanson with six, Kaden Keeling, Eli McClain and Levi Helm with four each and Ruddick, Jakobe Montes and Levi Malone with two each.

Cassville

McDonald County wrapped up its undefeated conference schedule with a 43-14 win over Cassville on Jan. 30 at home.

The Mustangs took control of the game early, jumping out to an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 30-11 margin at halftime.

Cole Martin scored 12 points and Leach had 10 to lead McDonald County. Mora and Gricks added seven points each followed by McClain with three and Harmon and Eliam two each.

The Mustang B team claimed an easy 38-7 decision. S.J. Joseph scored 10 points to lead McDonald County, followed by McClain with nine, Igosomar seven, and Ruddick, Montes and Malone four each.

Webb City

The Webb City Cardinals handed McDonald County its third loss of the season with a 44-28 win on Feb. 1 in Webb City.

The Cardinals led 19-12 at halftime and 29-24 after three quarters before outscoring the Mustangs 15-4 in the fourth quarter.

McDonald County was led by Mora with eight points, followed by Ruddick with six, Leach five, Gricks four, Martin and Eliam two each and Harmon one.

The McDonald County B team earned a split with a 44-39 win. McClain scored 12 points and Malone 10 to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Helm with nine points, Keeling and Joseph four each, Ruddick and Montes two each and Igosomar one.

McDonald County finished the regular season with a 9-3 overall record. The Mustangs wrap up the season this week with the Big 8 Conference Tournament in Lamar.
