PINEVILLE -- McDonald County Crowder College Nursing students know firsthand the demands on school nurses, so they wanted to help through an outreach project. Both first- and second-year students were able to purchase clothing and hygiene supplies to provide the McDonald County School District.
They worked closely with Tracy Allman, school nurse at McDonald County High School to provide $1,000 in items. These items included 140 pairs of sweatpants, 200 deodorants and 100 body hygiene washes.
The students raised $500 and were able to secure a $500 match from the Jane Walmart to provide the much-needed supplies to Allman.
An email from Allman sent to Rachel Feagans, McDonald County nursing coordinator, stated, "Thank you for all the wonderful donations. They will come in so very useful for our students and also reduce some of the search efforts our staff often has to take to provide for our students."
"I am extremely proud of all the hard work that the nursing students have put in supporting their community. Their compassion for others is a beautiful thing to witness," stated Feagans.
The nursing program at the McDonald County campus is part of the nationally accredited program at the main campus in Neosho. A total of 44 students are currently enrolled as first- or second-year students in the program. Feagans became coordinator last fall.
