Nearly 300 people gathered to enjoy a special show last week, learning more about salvation over a delicious barbecue dinner.

Based on that success, Sims Corner Church pastor, Monty Muehlebach, plans to host more events in the future.

The church was one of several sponsors to host Wild Horse Ministries from Louisiana. The organization's officials traveled to Whispering Pines Arena in Pineville to present the show, demonstrating the love of the Father.

Owners of the arena, Sims Corner Church in Powell, Iron Works Church of the Nazarene in Anderson and the Cowboy Catering Company sponsored the event.

During the presentation, Wild Horse Ministries representative Jim Daily outlined the "Round Pen of Life." While training a horse, he pointed out the similarities between man's relationship with God and a horse's relationship with his trainer.

Muehlebach said many participants enjoyed the event, calling the show "unbelievable." Event-goers said they were "amazed" and "couldn't wait to tell their friends." Many asked when the next show would take place, he said.

The crowd of approximately 300 people stunned organizers, who were surprised -- yet pleased -- at the outcome.

"I actually knew of 50 people who had planned to attend, and hoped for 100," Muehlebach said. "We had food for 150 and we fed 280-plus," he said.

Why such a large crowd? "God, horses, free barbecue," Muehlebach said. "No particular order for most."

The pastor, who also owns the Cowboy Catering Company, estimated about 60 percent of those who attended were curious about the event and probably regularly attend church somewhere. Muehlebach thinks 25 percent of event-goers are probably believers without a regular home church and about 15 percent most likely wanted to check out the free barbecue dinner.

Muehlebach hopes to host four or five of the events next year. He wants to utilize the same location in Pineville, as well as a location in Anderson and one in the northwest Arkansas area.

Eventually, Muehlebach would like to host an event at Parsons Stadium in Springdale, Ark.

His motivation? "To see people changed and living free. I want to bring this to as many people as we can reach."

From a catering perspective, the pastor and barbecuer will continue to provide a free barbecue dinner at coming events.

"When I felt the call back to Sims Corner, God laid on my heart to feed my people," Muehlebach said. "I took that to mean physically and spiritually."
