Jill Williams, librarian and sponsor of the Library Club at McDonald County High School, and 33 students recently traveled to the state library club (Epsilon Beta) convention in Springfield.

McDonald County served as the hosts, with Williams being the state sponsor. The conference began with a fairy tale reception that included Hansel and Gretel gingerbread house making, a fairy tale break-out box, snacks and a photo booth.

Contests were held the first day, and several McDonald County students did very well. Ricardo Padilla placed third in the book talk for his talk of "One Dark Throne" by Kendare Blake. Makayla Stone placed first in photography and Levi Womack placed first with his book trailer over the book "Scythe" by Neal Shusterman. Emma Buchanan won a scholarship sponsored by Epsilon Beta.

The students hosted a ghost tour of Pythian Castle during the evening, followed by a business meeting and officer elections for the 2019-2020 year the next morning.

McDonald County students elected to state offices include state president, Ryan King; state vice president, McKenna Evenson, who will serve as president next year; and Brittaney Mann, who will serve as the secretary.
