The Truth Is In Your Bible

Special prayers were requested for Dot Harnar and Rochelle as we gathered to worship Sunday morning at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Wayne Johnson welcomed visitors and opened our morning service with prayer.

Linda Abercrombie shared the devotional about longing for things of beauty which becomes a jealous ache and how beauty fades. We should find beauty in simple things like sunlight or a cup of coffee. There is also beauty in loss because loss means we have loved. Outward beauty doesn't satisfy or last. It can't be owned or possessed. Beauty comes with open eyes and heart. It is the little things that are the most beautiful of all. We have an endless supply of beauty around us because the God of the universe has filled it with beauty.

Tyrel Lett asked the blessing upon the offering, and he and Rick Lett served as ushers. Congregational hymns included "Sunlight" with Becky Johnson at the piano. We were blessed with special music from Wayne Holly, Jerry Abercrombie and Karen Gardner, who sang "I Know Whom I Have Believed," based on scripture from II Timothy 1:12, "For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day."

Our pastor Brother Mark Hall brought us a brief message about the truth which is in the Bible. Brother Mark told us, "do not trust anyone to read or know your Bible for you. The end of the world could be tomorrow. No one knows. You have to know your Bible. Don't depend on your cell phone or the news for the truth. The absolute truth is in the Bible. Everything else is opinion and speculation." Scripture was from Psalm 119:160, "The entirety of Your word is truth. And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever."

Our guest speaker was Ron Mackey from the Missouri Baptist Home. He told us about the three campuses and 280 residents at the home which began 104 years ago. He told us aging is a difficult journey physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. He told us we all struggle with getting older, just like David did in Psalm 71:1-18. To help deal with aging, Ron told us, we need to find our identity in Christ because everything else will leave you. "You need to know how to tell your story as a part of God's story and what He has done for you. Our story should be one that connects us to the past and tells what Christ has done for us. Who you are will only last as long as you are wrapped up in Christ. Your story should be about how Christ has delivered you and been with you throughout your life. Others need to know your story that faith in Christ sustains over decades and through the struggles and joys in our life. It should be a story of grace and truth and hope and joy for the Lord never leaves us or forsakes us." In closing Ron said, "As you get older, can you say it's a great day for the Lord to come? Grow old with God."

Our hymn of invitation was "Where The Roses Never Fade" and Wayne Holly gave the benediction. The business meeting will be held next Sunday evening at 7 p.m., and fall fellowship on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Collingsworth's.

Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. We invite you to worship with us at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome.
