Goodman Council Sets Condemnation Hearing

Goodman aldermen on Tuesday night set a hearing for condemning the Landis property.

Aldermen said they have worked for at least two years trying to get the Landis family to clean up the property, but not much has been done. The property is located at 108 W. Williams St.

A hearing for the property's condemnation is set for 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, prior to the regular council meeting that evening.

In other business, council members discussed averaging the water fills for Brenda Hall and Joel Gaona.

Aldermen also voted to promote Officer Joe David to Senior Officer, and approved giving him a 50-cent-per-hour raise.

Mayor Greg Richmond thanked everyone who helped with, or attended, Saturday's Ozark Orchard Festival. He said he thought the festival went very well and went off without too many glitches.

Committee members hope to host the festival again next year. Richmond thinks better advertising, as well as securing more raffle and auction items, will help.

The festival's proceeds came in at around $2,150, which will go toward funding next year's festival, Richmond said.

The idea for the festival wasn't necessarily to host a large festival but, rather, to host a community event for folks to enjoy the day with fun, food and games.

"It's mostly for our neighbors and citizens to have a good day and a little fun," Richmond said.

In other business, the council approved $44,648.78 for bills and transfers.
