Crew Deploys To Help Hurricane Harvey Victims

A team from McDonald County has deployed to help Hurricane Harvey victims.

White Rock Assistant Chief Fred Parker and Katie Baker left Friday night for Texas.

Over the weekend, the team distributed donated goods to victims in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and then waited to see the outcome of Hurricane Irma's damage before deciding what to do next, Parker said.

A Facebook page -- Mac County Hurricane Harvey Rescue and Recovery 2017 -- has been established. McDonald County neighbors can keep abreast of posted needs of hurricane victims and ways to help.

Team members have been posting items that are much needed. In Texas, mosquito netting is a desperately needed item for rescue workers.

For Florida hurricane victims, the most requested items needed include:

• Bottled water

• Propane

• Insect repellent and allergy/anti-itch medications

• Box fans or high-power shop fans

• Generators of all types and sizes

• Bleach and other multi-purpose cleaning supplies

• Shelf-stable/non-perishable foods and snacks

First aid supplies are also welcome.

Anyone who is able to give blood through the Red Cross is encouraged to do so.
