September National Senior Center Month

September is National Senior Center month. Senior centers provide seniors a place to go for lunch, socialize with others their age, take part in activities, and much more.

Thanks to local support the Southwest City Senior Center is able to host a variety of activities for seniors, including an upcoming Spaghetti Dinner and Dessert Auction on Oct. 7. The fun will begin at 6 p.m. A spaghetti dinner with breadsticks, salad, dessert and a drink will be available -- $7 for adults and $5 for those ages 5-12.

Live music will be provided by local artist John Spurling. Spurling specializes in classic red-dirt country and folk music.

A handmade afghan blanket will be raffled.

Tickets can be purchased at the Southwest Senior Center or at City Hall.

"Our auctioneer is JimBob McGhee. He always does a fantastic job," said Director Melissa Lance. "All proceeds will go to our center."

"Anyone who would like to make a pie or dessert for the auction is welcome to do so or if you would like to help in another way just let us know," said Lance. "We appreciate your support."

Lance can be reached at the Senior Center via phone at 417-762-3652 or via email at [email protected].

The Health Department will be visiting the Southwest City Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, providing flu shots.

"Be sure to bring your insurance card with you," Lance said, "and afterwards, have lunch with us."
