Goodman Council Condemns House

The Goodman City Council voted Tuesday night to condemn property at 108 W. Williams St.

The property's owners will have 30 days to tear down the house. If they don't, city officials will tear down the property and then assess fines and costs, officials said.

Comprehensive Land-Use Meeting Oct. 24

Goodman will host its next Comprehensive Land Use meeting, one of several in a series this year, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at City Hall.

Officials and residents will discuss planning for Goodman’s future.

The Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council, which is developing a Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the city, is focused on identifying Goodman’s strengths and building for the future, said Jill Cornett, HSTCC executive director.

The HSTCC was tapped by the Department of Defense to work on a land-use plan to protect the mission of Camp Crowder near Neosho, Cornett said. From that work, other joint land-use plans are being developed.

A recent survey identified the city’s strengths and weaknesses, which will help city officials plan for the future to address needs and wants.

Cornett said the information can help Goodman move forward with planning for the future, possibly applying for grants, and finding out additional avenues for future improvement.

The meeting is open to the public.

The action came during a special public hearing prior to the regular City Council meeting.

In regular business, members voted to purchase a new bulletin board to be placed outside City Hall. Members approved up to a $200 expenditure for the message board.

Aldermen also approved averaging Brenda Hall's water bill after her house experienced a leak, which has now been fixed.

The council heard from City Supervisor David Brodie, who said he will likely need to have someone replace a new valve that was purchased. He also mentioned that no parking signs had been ordered.

In other business:

• Tax Collector Meghan Sexson said residents would be assessed $600 for the expense of tax books for the county.

• Members approved bills in the amount of $23,889.29, including transfers.

• Members will host a Comprehensive Land Use meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at City Hall.

• A special Halloween event will take place at 5 p.m. Halloween night at the Goodman ball park.
