MCHS Cross Country Places 25th In Chile Pepper Run

David Lazalde finished in 25th place out of 889 runners to lead the McDonald County High School cross country team to a 22nd place finish in the high school open division at the Chile Pepper Festival held Sept. 30 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

Albert Serrano of Miller Grove High School in Cumby, Texas, won the race in a time of 16:32.3.

Lockhart (Texas) High School won the team title out of the 63 teams entered.

Alex Guadarrama was second for the Mustangs, finishing 86th overall in a time of 18:20.5. Rounding out the results for McDonald County were Jackson Behm, 167th, 19:05.8; Bryce Berryhill, 236th, 19:32.9; Tyler Moritz, 238th, 19:35.1; Elijah Habert, 315th, 20:09.5; Matthew Crowder, 690th, 23:22.3; Brandon Garcia, 716th, 23:40.2; and, Justin Smith, 790th, 25:04.9.

Addy Mick led the Lady Mustangs with a 56th place finish in a time of 22:35.9. Natalie Staib was second for McDonald County in 23:32.0 followed by Brooklyn Winters, 139th, 23:51.7; Istarlin Aden, 427th, 29:13.4; Tyler Walker, 428th, 29:14.0; and Andrea Creason, 435th, 29:20.9.

Jorga Bessonett of Miller Grove won the individual title with a time of 19:42.5 while Miller Grove edged Westmoore High School of Oklahoma City by a single point for the team title. McDonald County finished in 30th place out of 56 teams in the team competition.

McDonald County's next race is set for Oct. 9 at Cassville High School.
