Trail Meeting Set For Dec. 14

Southwest City will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Anne Croxdale Memorial Library on Main Street. The public is invited to join the city of Southwest City as it discusses the future of trails grants and projects.

At this public hearing, Southwest City's planning and zoning committee will approve the trail plan and put the plan to a vote at the next city council meeting. The Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council will then create individual trail plans for cities in McDonald County, starting with Southwest City.

This meeting represents the final step in a long-range planning process to develop trails in McDonald County that may one day connect to the Razorback Regional Greenway in Bella Vista, Ark. The Greenway extends 36 miles from Fayetteville to Bella Vista, linking communities, parks, schools, residential and retail developments, and other significant points of interest.

Currently, the Greenway ends at Lake Bella Vista. The Razorback Greenway Master Plan includes proposed trails to extend to the Missouri state line, at which point they could connect with trails in McDonald County.

The communities of McDonald County have displayed great enthusiasm for the possible development of trails in their region. They recognize the economic, as well as health and environmental benefits, that bike/pedestrian trails offer the area.

The Oct. 17 workshop offered interested parties and individuals an opportunity to learn more about the proposed trails, as well as to contribute ideas and opinions to the planning process.
