In its first action of the season other than against each other, the 2017-2018 McDonald County Lady Mustang basketball team scrimmaged against Carl Junction, Webb City and Mount Vernon at a jamboree held Nov. 16 at Carl Junction High School.

McDonald County opened against a big and physical Carl Junction team.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-2 lead and went on to claim a 13-4 decision in the six-minute quarter. In the second six minutes, Carl Junction outscored the Lady Mustangs, 8-2.

Rita Santillan scored four of the six Lady Mustang points, while Samantha Frazier had the other two.

Facing the Mount Vernon Lady Mountaineers next, McDonald County fell, 14-4, in the first period and, 10-5, in the second.

Aspen Bowman, Ragan Wilson, Laney Wilson and Jaylie Sanny all scored two points, while Lily Allman had one.

In their final scrimmage of the night, McDonald County was outscored, 29-4, by Webb City in the two periods.

Frazier had two points, while Ragan Wilson and Santillan had one each.

"I thought we did a lot of good things at times," said coach Blake Short. "Consistency is something we will have to work on, as well as developing our depth. Right now we are trying to figure out who will be able to sub and be effective for us. Overall, we learned what you want to from a jamboree."

McDonald County doesn't begin its season until after the Thanksgiving break. The Lady Mustangs begin play in the CJ Classic Girls Basketball Tournament against Nevada at 4 p.m. on Nov. 27 at Carl Junction High School.
