McDonald County rallied from a 66-41 deficit with six consecutive pins in the final six matches to hand Seneca a 77-66 loss in a junior high wrestling dual held Nov. 2 at Seneca High School.
Cody Dumond got the rally started before Blaine Ortiz, Jared Mora, Billy Laughard, Jacob Owens and Weston Gordon followed with pins to give the Mustangs their first-ever win over Seneca in junior high wrestling.
Seneca took a 15-0 lead before Laughard put McDonald County on the board with a pin to cut the lead to 15-6.
Levi Smith followed by winning a 15-0 decision to get the Mustangs to within 15-11.
Seneca won by pin in the next match before Owens won a 7-5 decision to cut the lead to 21-14. Seneca recorded another pin, but Ortiz answered with a pin for McDonald County to make the score 27-20.
A Seneca pin and a 6-4 decision stretched the Indian lead to 36-20, but Brayden Burt won by pin to get the Mustangs to 36-26.
Malick Taylor's pin cut the lead to 36-32, but Seneca won three straight matches to take a 54-32 lead.
Sam Murphy won a 2-1 overtime decision to break the Seneca run. A Seneca pin was answered by a pin from McDonald County's Junior Eliam setting the stage for the Mustangs' fantastic finish.
McDonald County's next match is set for Nov. 9 at Cassville. The Mustangs home opener is a double dual against Joplin South and Webb City on Nov. 13 at MCHS. Matches begin at 5:30 p.m.
