Sutherland Charges Dropped

Charges against McDonald County reserve deputy and Pineville deputy marshall Jeffrey Sutherland have been dismissed, according to McDonald County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Dobbs.

Dismissal came after written request of the alleged victim, Dobbs said.

Sutherland, 46, of rural Pineville, is alleged to have placed an electronic tracking device on an automobile owned by a former girlfriend and used that device to monitor her travel and possible contacts.

According to court documents, the woman alleged that, on one occassion, security cameras captured Sutherland entering her home while she was not present and staying for close to an hour.

"While I believe there was more than sufficient evidence, both physical and testimonial, to support the charges of stalking and burglary," Dobbs said, "the state has dismissed the charges against Sutherland at the request of the victim. She has submitted a written request and I have met with her on two occasions. Without her support and cooperation, we are unable to continue with prosecution in this matter."
