Goodman Seeks Public Input On New Committee

Goodman City Council members hope sending a letter to all Goodman residents will spread the word about joining a new committee.

Council members on Tuesday night, May 16, approved spending $250 to mail letters to every resident to solicit committee members.

The Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the City, developed by the Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council, will help Goodman set planning and zoning regulations.

Members are needed for the committee, said Goodman Mayor Greg Richmond.

To be eligible for grants and other funding, Goodman needs planning and zoning guidelines, Richmond said. Letters sent to each resident will hopefully drum up interest, because council members want input from their neighbors.

The next committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. June 13 at Goodman City Hall. Anyone interested in joining the committee should contact City Hall.

Clean-up continues from the tornado that ripped through Goodman on April 4. Work has been done to repair the ball field's lights. A crew from Natural Accents spent several days chipping up a large pile of debris from the tornado. After the meeting, Richmond explained that all the remaining felled trees and limbs in town had been brought to one central location at the ball field, with the plan to burn the pile. However, the pile grew too large to burn and a chipper crew was brought in to reduce the pile. Other leftover materials also were hauled away.

In other business, the board approved making a change and printing the penalties on delinquency forms that Tax Collector Meghan Sexson sends out. The change will reduce the time Sexson spends on the process each time.
