Pineville Breaks Ground For Bike Park

Mother Nature might have influenced the day chosen for the bike park's official groundbreaking, but she just couldn't squelch the enthusiasm kids and their parents have for Pineville's newest amenity.

Officials broke ground for the new bike park on Wednesday morning. The park is located near Pineville Elementary School, on Big Sugar Road next to Sugar Island.

Depending on the weather, crews may be finished with the project in about two weeks.

The bike park will have some cool features, thanks to input from the kids who will use it most. Earlier this year, a group of Pineville children met with Progressive Bike Ramps president and owner John Hunter, to give input, swap ideas and see what could be developed for the youth of the community.

Hunter, who grew up in Noel and graduated from McDonald County High School, is excited to meet the need of young bike enthusiasts.

In April, Pineville City Council unanimously approved making a bike park a reality.

Members approved a $50,000 expenditure toward the new bike park. Total cost for the bike park is $163,151.76, with the proposed bike trail estimated to cost $99,600.

Grant money may be available as well.

Officials, who believe the bike park is needed to serve the needs of so many youngsters in the area, think the youth will help market the new amenity once it is complete.
