Pineville Approves New Logo

Pineville City Council members approved artwork, which will help with branding and marketing efforts.

With a thunderstorm brewing and impending bad weather on its way March 9, City Council members quickly moved through agenda. The regular council meeting, scheduled for March 14, was rescheduled because of a conflict.

After gaining input at the Planning Commission meeting a week earlier, Alderman Scott Dennis presented members with artwork for a new city logo. After review and some discussion, City Council members approved the logo, which will be sent to state officials for approval. The city logo -- with pine trees and a canoe -- will be featured on signs on the outskirts of town. Officials believe the signs will help promote the town, known for its camping and canoeing options. City officials also will use the same logo on city letterhead.

City Council members also approved a logo for the city's new water tower.

In other business, members had the opportunity to see a preliminary design for the proposed bike park. Mayor Gregg Sweeten said the youth who gave input in a planning meeting like the design, but hope a bowl can be added. The council will have final approval on the design.

The council also commented on the reduced percentage of water loss Pineville is now experiencing. The city has a challenging opportunity with three water systems and Public Works staff members have been working diligently to find water leaks. Water loss rates have decreased from 60 percent to 14 percent. The decrease is impressive, Sweeten said.

Other discussion focused on new rules that may be approved by the Planning Commission, Dennis added. The commission is considering new guidelines for storage buildings, setbacks, small homes and motor homes, among other issues.
