Neosho Sweeps MCH In Doubleheader

Neosho swept a 16U baseball doubleheader at McDonald County on June 13 before McDonald County went 0-4 in a Mickey Mantle Word Series Qualifier tournament held June 15-17 in Joplin.

Neosho scored three runs in the first two innings off of McDonald County's Jackson Behm and Koby McAlister on the way to a 9-1 win. After allowing three runs in the second inning, McAlister held Neosho to three runs over the final five innings.

McDonald County's only run of the game came in the second inning. Cade Smith was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Walks to Colliar Gottfried and Sampson Boles loaded the bases before Smith scored on a wild pitch.

McDonald County's only hit was McAlister's single to lead off the third inning.

Smith took the loss in Neosho's 7-2 win in the second game, allowing two runs on four hits in the first inning.

Nolan Baisch worked a scoreless second before Ethan Francisco allowed three runs in the third. Rendon Lane shut out Neosho in the fourth before Neosho scored its final two runs in the fifth off of Boles.

McDonald County's runs came in the fifth on an error and four walks.

Kammeron Hopkins singled and Baisch doubled for McDonald County's only hits.

Joplin Tournament

Smith allowed six runs in six and a third innings in McDonald County's 6-3 loss to the MVP Athletics in the Mickey Mantle Word Series Qualifier tournament on June 15 at Missouri Southern State University.

Leading the offense were Smith and Boles with two hits each and Baisch, Hopkins and Behm with one each.

Baisch took the loss in McDonald County's 13-1 loss to Woodward, Okla., on June 16 at Joplin High School. Boles and Smith each had one hit for McDonald County.

The KC Bullets claimed a 20-1 win over McDonald County, also on June 16 at Joplin High School. Behm worked one inning before Omar Manuel finished. Boles had the only McDonald County hit.

McDonald County dropped its final game of the tournament to the McKinney Marshals. Boles took the loss in the 9-1 decision while McDonald County was held hitless.

McDonald County falls to 4-11 for the season entering its June 22 game at Neosho.
