MCHS 14U Baseball Sweeps Grove

The McDonald County 14U baseball team improved to 13-8 for the season by sweeping Grove, Okla., on June 14 at Grove High School.

Brandon Armstrong went the distance in the first game, shutting out Grove on two hits over five innings to lead McDonald County to a 6-0 win.

McDonald County scored all six of its runs in the third inning. Colton Ruddick singled, Wyatt Jordan walked and Cole Martin bunted for a hit to load the bases. Levi Helm drove in the first run with a fielder's choice before Levi Malone singled in two runs. After Junior Eliam and Matthew Mora were hit by pitches to reload the bases, Armstrong hit a line drive to the center field wall for a double to drive in the final three McDonald County runs.

McDonald County scored five runs in the top of the first of the nightcap on the way to a 14-4 win.

Cross Dowd and Wyatt Habert had two-run singles while Eliam added an RBI single in the first inning.

McDonald County added three runs in the second inning. Martin and Helm singled and Eliam was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Malone drove in a run with a sacrifice fly before Helm and Eliam scored on wild pitches.

Grove scored three runs in the third off of Ruddick on an error, a walk and a hit.

McDonald County answered with six runs in the top of the fourth inning. Eliam tripled while Jordan and Helm singled to key the inning.

Martin, Helm, Eliam, Dowd and Jordan all had two hits to lead McDonald County while Malone, Ruddick and Habert had one each.

McDonald County hosted Jay on June 19 before traveling to Joplin on June 21 (seventh grade) and June 22 (eighth grade).
