14U Baseball Wins Three Rivers Tourney

Levi Helm allowed one run on two hits to lead the McDonald County 14U baseball team to a 5-1 win over Jay, Okla., in the championship game of the Three Rivers Junior High Baseball Tournament on June 27 in Jay, Okla.

Helm struck out five and walked two in five innings, allowing only an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning.

McDonald County took a 1-0 lead in the top of third on a leadoff triple by Levi Malone and an RBI single by Cross Dowd before Jay tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an error and a double.

McDonald County answered in the top of the fourth with four runs on three hits. Matthew Mora reached on an error to lead off the inning and came around to score on a double by Brandon Armstrong. Colton Ruddick reached on Jay's second error of the inning and Malone walked to load the bases. After Cole Martin drove in a run with a ground out, Dowd followed with a single that drove in the final two McDonald County runs.

Armstrong and Dowd finished with two hits each to lead McDonald County while Malone and Helm had the only other two hits.

The win ends McDonald County's 2017 season with a 19-11 record.

Tahlequah

McDonald County defeated Tahlequah 15-5 in the semifinals on June 26. Bo Leach picked up the win on the mound, allowing five runs in three innings.

Dowd led the offense driving in two runs with a double and a single. Martin and Leach each had one hit and drove in two runs, while Helm, Malone, Junior Eliam and Colton Ruddick had one hit each.
