Seventh-Grade Boys Improve Record

The McDonald County seventh-grade boys' basketball team improved to 5-0 for the season with wins over Neosho and East Newton last week.

Three players scored in double figures to lead McDonald County to a 69-30 win over Neosho on Jan. 9 at Pineville Junior High School. Garrett Gricks led the team with 16 points followed by Bo Leach with 14 and Pierce Harmon 10. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Junior Eliam with eight points, Matthew Mora seven, Cole Martin six, S.J. Joseph five and Cross Dowd three.

McDonald County added a 46-9 win in the B game. Dylan Igisomar scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs followed by Colton Ruddick with nine points, Dowd eight, Eli McClain and Devin Swanson six each and Joseph two.

McDonald County won its second game in two nights with a 57-23 win over East Newton on Jan. 10, also at Pineville Junior High School.

Leading the scoring for the Mustangs was Leach with 16 points. Harmon added nine points and Gricks, Martin and Eliam added eight points each followed by Mora with four points and Igisomar and McLain two each.

In the B game, Igisomar scored 17 points and Logan Harriman had 10 to lead McDonald County to a 51-11 win over the Patriots. Rounding out the scoring were Ruddick with seven points, Dowd and Joseph five each, McClain four and Levi Helm three.

Eighth Grade

The eighth-grade team picked up its first win of the season after two losses with a 42-36 win over Neosho on Jan. 9 at Anderson Middle School.

Parker Harris scored 17 points and Chris Arrowood had 11 to lead McDonald County. Tret Alik added eight points followed by Carlos Sosa with four points and Israel Marcos with two.

McDonald County made it a sweep with a 41-23 win in the B game. Jordan Meador scored 12 points and Trayce McCool had nine to lead the Mustangs. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Kaiden Campbell with six points, Ricky Sanchez five, Parker Toney and Sebastian Gill four each and Grayson Farris one.

East Newton dropped the eighth-grade A team to 1-3 for the season with a 55-40 decision on Jan. 10 at Anderson Middle School.

Scoring for the Mustangs was as follows: Arrowood 12 points, Alik 11, Logan Renner seven, Jackson Clarkson four, Harris three and Marcos, Sosa and Campbell one each.

The B team remained perfect with its second win of the season. McCool scored 11 points to lead McDonald County followed by Meador with seven points, Campbell six and Sanchez and Damian Martinez five each.

McDonald County's game scheduled for Jan. 13 against Mount Vernon was postponed due to weather. The Mustangs' next games are set for Jan. 19 at Joplin North. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
