The McDonald County eighth-grade boys basketball team went 0-2 Saturday at the Joplin Eighth Grade Boys Basketball Tournament to open its 2017 season.
In the first game, the Mustangs had a pair of shots just miss in the final seconds in a 37-36 loss to Joplin North.
McDonald County was led by Trent Alik with 15 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Jackson Clarkson with nine points and Parker Harris and Chris Arrowood with six points each.
In the second game, McDonald County dropped a 51-38 decision to Joplin East. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Alik with 14 points followed by Harris and Clarkson with nine each, Arrowood four and Trayce McCool two.
McDonald County faced Neosho on Jan. 9 and East Newton on Jan. 10 before the Mustangs host Mount Vernon on Jan. 13.
