Summer Ball Registration In Full Swing

During ball season, you'll find Stephanie Sweeten down at the ballfields.

Though her grown children no longer play, Sweeten likes to stay involved. As secretary of the Pineville/Jane Summer Ball Program, she helps with registration and getting the word out.

She also likes to see the youth stay active and involved. She enjoys watching the younger children play ball, but also appreciates the competitiveness of the older age groups.

She admits you'll find her about four or five nights a week, volunteering, when ball season is in full swing.

Approximately 225 children sign up for the summer ball program each year. All boys and girls, ages 4-16 as of Jan. 1, 2017, who live in the Pineville/White Rock School District, are eligible to play.

Registration will take place in the next two weeks. Practices will start around the middle of March, with games scheduled to begin around May 1.

Players will be scheduled for 10-16 games and some teams travel within the county to play other towns. In addition to teams from Jane and Pineville, teams from Southwest City, Noel, Anderson, Rocky Comfort and Goodman compete.

Registration will be held at the Pineville Community Center during these times:

• 5 to 7 p.m., Feb. 20

• 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 25

• 5 to 7 p.m., March 2,

Parents should bring a copy of their child's birth certificate to the sign-ups.

Cost is $20 for one child's registration; $35 for two, and $50 for three or more.
