St. Mary's Colgan used a 17-6 advantage in the third quarter to break open a close game on the way to claiming a 37-26 decision over the McDonald County Lady Mustangs on Dec. 8 in Pittsburg, Kan.

Colgan led 4-3 after the first quarter and 11-10 at halftime before stretching the lead to 28-16 entering the fourth quarter.

Ragan Wilson led the Lady Mustangs with 10 points. Rita Santillan added six points and Sam Frazier had four, while Jaylie Sanny, Caitlyn Barton and Megan Mills had two each.

McDonald County claimed a 35-23 win in the junior varsity game. Scoring for the Lady Mustangs were Laney Wilson and Zoe Vallance with seven points each. Lily Allman had six. Barton, Katie Kester and Addy Mick had four each, Mollie Milleson, two, and Kristin Penn, one.

On Dec. 5 at Purdy, the Lady Eagles outscored McDonald County 12-6 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 30-28 win.

Purdy led 14-9 at halftime before McDonald County used a 13-4 advantage in the third quarter to take a 22-18 lead into the final period.

Santillan scored 11 points and Frazier 10 to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Mustangs were Wilson with five points and Penn with two.

Purdy's Layne Skiles scored 17 of the Lady Eagles' 30 points.

McDonald County cruised to a 35-10 win in the junior varsity game. Barton led the way with 10 points, followed by Allman with six, Laney Wilson and Kester with five each, Sanny with three, and Mick, Penn and Alexia Estrada had two each.

McDonald County's varsity falls to 0-5 entering its home opener on Dec. 14 against Baxter Springs. The junior varsity game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity.
