Two Events Rescheduled For May 6

Two events in Pineville have been rescheduled for May 6 due to the rain last weekend and rain expected for this weekend.

Pineville Mayor Gregg Sweeten said the city will host a metal and tire clean-up from 9 a.m. to noon May 6 at the Pineville Square.

Pineville residents are encouraged to bring in their old tires to the clean-up event. Sweeten said old tires can collect rainwater, which can then attract mosquitoes. The clean-up effort can help alleviate that potential problem.

City officials ask that wheels and rims be removed and that residents just bring in their old tires. Each resident can bring up to 10 old tires.

The clean-up effort also will include collecting metal. A bin will be located at the square for that purpose, Sweeten said.

The event is open to Pineville residents only. Residents will be asked to provide proof of residency, Sweeten said.

That evening, the city will host show the movie "Moana" at dusk at the Pineville Square as part of the Movies in the Park series.

The movie is free and open to the public. Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. and concessions will open at that time as well.
