Pineville City Council Moves Ahead With Bike Park Construction

Pineville City Council members on Tuesday night unanimously approved taking the next step in making a bike park a reality.

Members approved a $50,000 expenditure toward the new bike park. Plans are drawn up and the city is ready to move forward with construction. Total cost for the bike park is $163,151.76, with the proposed bike trail estimated to cost $99,600.

Grant money may be available as well.

Officials, who believe the bike park is needed to serve the needs of so many youngsters in the area, think the youth will help market the new amenity once it is complete this spring.

In other business, Pineville Mayor Gregg Sweeten held a swearing-in ceremony for incoming City Council member Becky Davis, who defeated alderman Jeff Slish in a recent election.

Sweeten thanked Slish for his service, not only on the City Council but the Housing Board as well. He said he appreciated all his work on behalf of the city. Slish thanked everyone and said he really enjoyed working on the council.

During the meeting, the board approved a new packer for the Public Works Department to be utilized for various projects, as well as awarding a bid for new lift stations.

Sweeten reported that the repair work at the ball field will be altered to include placing the large blocks to form a wall. Crews will use geofiber material to hold the blocks in place. Officials had planned to take a different route, but solid rock prevented that action.

The city will host its first-ever Arbor Day Celebration at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21. The event will feature the elementary school choir, ROTC, Missouri Conservation Agent John Skinner, planting a tree and a tree giveaway of pine, sycamore and willow trees. The event is open to the public.
