MCHS Boys 6th At East Newton

The McDonald County High School boys cross country team took sixth place out of 15 teams at the East Newton Cross County Invitational held Saturday at East Newton High School.

Lamar, taking the top three individual places, edged Grain Valley by a single point, 30-31, to win the team title. Carl Junction was a distant third with 126 points, followed by East Newton 129, Joplin 135, McDonald County 197, Neosho, 214, College Heights 258, Republic 268, Liberal 282, Webb City 297, Seneca 328, Southwest 336, Spokane 390 and Blue Eye 422.

Truman Craig's 31st place in a time of 18:52.03 was the top individual performance for the Mustangs. He was followed by David Lazalde in 34th place in 18:53.24; Jackson Behm, 36th, 18:55.18; Caleb Curtis, 62nd, 19:46.35; Tyler Mortiz, 87th, 20:27.92; Garrett Spears, 88th, 20:28.38; Lane Ziemianin, 107th, 21:12.43; Alex Guadaramma, 113th, 21:38.94; and Drew Landers, 119th, 21:46.01.

Lamar's Mark Venable beat a field of 150 to win the race in a time of 16:38.80.

Girls

Addy Mick led the McDonald County girls to a 13th place out of 19 teams. Carl Junction won the girls' division with 35 points followed by Grain Valley 97, Republic 119, Liberal 173, East Newton 174, Hollister 189, Webb City 216, Spokane 224, Neosho 241, Sarcoxie 243, Diamond 250, Joplin 259, McDonald County 296, Blue Eye 322, School of the Ozarks 327, Lamar 351, Southwest 416, Wheaton 454 and Galena 494.

Mick finished in 26th place in a time of 23:33.70. Other McDonald County results are as follows: Andrea Creason, 29th, 23:39.76; Natalie Staib, 50th, 25:07.56; Istarlin Aden, 102nd, 29:33.15; and Ruby Palomo, 113th, 31:57.49.

Mariah Lister of Grain Valley won the girls' race in a field of 128 in a time of 18:34.03.

Junior Varsity

Elijah Nelson was the top Mustang in the boys' junior varsity race. Nelson was 32nd in 22:51.14. He was followed by Anthony Deering, 37th, 23:43.74, Garvin Isaiah, 45th, 25:09.94; Bryce Berryhill, 46th, 25:28.62; and Tyler Jackson, 47th, 25:50.45.

Jaxson Jarman led Grain Valley to the team title with a first place finish in a time of 18:31.12. Joplin was second followed by Cassville, Lamar and McDonald County.
