McDonald County built a 22-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to claim a 40-6 win over Mount Vernon in a junior varsity football game on Sept. 19 at MCHS.
Peyton Barton opened the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run and then hit Cole DelosSantos with the conversion for an 8-0 lead.
The Mustangs added a safety when Marshall Foreman and Jaxsson Dawdy teamed up to tackle a Mount Vernon runner in the end zone. Barton and DelosSantos teamed up a pair of touchdown passes, 40 and 4 yards respectively, to close out the quarter.
McDonald County stretched the lead to 28-0 at half when Barton and DelosSantos connected for their third touchdown pass of the game, this one from 6 yards midway through the second quarter.
In the second half, Isrrael De Santiago capped the Mustangs' opening drive of the half with a 1-yard touchdown run. McDonald County's final touchdown came on Barton's 12-yard pass to DelosSantos that was set up by Barton's 70-yard screen pass to De Santiago.
Mount Vernon scored its lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard pass.
