Win Over Seneca Evens 7th-Graders' Record

The McDonald County seventh-grade football team scored all of its points in the second quarter to claim a 22-0 win over Seneca at MCHS on Sept. 15 to even its record at 1-1.

Mikayla Taylor put the Mustangs ahead 6-0 with a 40-yard touchdown run. Cole Martin then hit Levi Malone with touchdown passes from 60 and 15 yards as well as two-point conversions to Bo Leach and Eli McClain to close out the scoring.

Seneca rallied from an 8-0 deficit in the first quarter to claim a 40-8 win in the eighth grade game.

Logan Renner returned an interception from the Indians' 7-yard line for the lone Mustangs touchdown. Seneca led 16-8 at halftime and 24-8 at the end of three quarters.

Monett

The Monett Cubs' seventh-graders built a 15-0 lead after the first quarter, then held on for a 35-22 win over McDonald County on Sept. 12 at Monett High School in the season opener for both teams.

After falling behind 15-0 in the first quarter, McDonald County cut the margin to 21-14 at halftime on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Martin to McClain and Martin's 15-yard touchdown run and Leach's two-point conversion run.

Monett scored two third-quarter touchdowns while McDonald County was held to a 43-yard touchdown by Leach. Martin threw to Malone for the two-point conversion to close out the scoring.

In the eighth grade game, Monett took a 12-8 lead at halftime on the way to an 18-8 win.

McDonald County's first-half points came on an 87-yard touchdown run by Austin Manwiller and a safety when Renner tackled a Monett runner in the end zone.

McDonald County's next games are on Sept. 22 at home against East Newton. The seventh-grade kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by the eighth-grade game.
