Lady Mustangs Hammer Carl Junction

The McDonald County Lady Mustangs softball team scored three runs in the first and six in the second before matching that total in the fourth for an 18-0 win over Carl Junction on Monday night at Carl Junction High School.

The win is the second for the Lady Mustangs over Carl Junction this season. At the Joplin Tournament earlier this season, Carl Junction scored four runs in the top of the first before McDonald County rallied for a 12-4 win in six innings.

Since trailing 4-0, McDonald County has outscored the Lady Bulldogs 30-0 in 9 innings.

Paige Jones went the first two innings and Hanna Schmit the last two in Monday's win. Jones allowed Carl Junction's lone hit, a first-inning double to Kaylie Hulette, while striking out one and walking one. Schmit was perfect in her two innings, striking out four of the six hitters she faced.

The Lady Mustangs offense pounded out 17 hits in their four at-bats, including three each by Cloee Helm and Kali McClain. Kylie Helm, Kenzie Stephens and Jones had two hits a piece while Schmit, Whitney Kinser, Aubrie Dunn, Leslie Yousey and Rita Santillan all had one hit.

McDonald County improves to 9-2 for the season heading into its Sept. 13 game at Joplin. McDonald County returns home on Sept. 15 to host Seneca in a makeup game of a rainout last week.
