Lady Mustangs Beat Neosho, Drop Match To Carl Junction

Carl Junction trailed for most of the first game before reeling off four consecutive points late in the game on the way to a 25-22, 25-21 win over McDonald County on Sept. 8 at MCHS.

Carl Junction jumped out to 7-4 lead in the first game before Alex Gross served four straight points for the Lady Mustangs to give McDonald County a 9-7 edge. McDonald County went on to build a four-point lead twice in the game and led 21-20 before the Lady Bulldogs rallied with four straight points late in the game to take a 24-21 lead. The teams traded the final two points of the game to give Carl Junction a 25-22 win.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the second game in the same fashion as they ended the first, taking an early 9-4 lead. Carl Junction stretched the margin to 21-13 and led 23-16 when McDonald County staged a late rally with five consecutive points to cut the lead to 23-21. Carl Junction scored the next two points to close out the match.

Gross finished with five kills, five service points and six digs to lead McDonald County. Bailey Rickett added six kills and five service points while Destiny Arnall had 11 assists, four service points and five digs and Lindsey Limore had two blocks and two kills.

Carl Junction also swept the freshman and junior varsity games. The Lady Bulldogs claimed a 25-14, 25-10 win in the junior varsity match and won the freshman match by a 25-5, 25-5 score.

McDonald County falls to 5-6 for the season entering its Sept. 13 match at Joplin. The Lady Mustangs return home on Sept. 19 against Joplin McAuley. Matches begin at 6 p.m.

Neosho

McDonald County jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first game behind the serving of Arnall and cruised to a dominating 25-11, 25-5 win over Neosho on Sept. 6 at Neosho High School.

Neosho staged a brief rally in the first game, closing to 9-4 midway through the first game, but the Lady Mustangs scored seven out the next eight points for a 16-5 lead. The teams then traded points until McDonald County scored six consecutive points to close out the game.

The second game started much the way the first did, with Arnall staking McDonald County to an early advantage, this time by serving six straight points. McDonald County continued its torrid pace the rest of the game, recording three runs of four points or more, including a 7-0 streak to close out the match.

Arnall finished with 18 service points, including six aces, 14 assists, two kills and two digs to lead McDonald County. Rickett added six service points and five kills with Hollie Garvin contributing seven service points and two digs. Gross led McDonald County in kills with seven while Limore had three.

McDonald County made it a clean sweep on the night, claiming a 25-11, 25-10 win in the junior varsity match.
