School Board Approves Bid For Bus Barn

At its Oct. 13 meeting, the McDonald County School District Board of Education approved a bid for $1,935,275 for the new bus barn.

John Kelsh of Controlled Technology Solutions, the builder for the project, presented the board with the bid, which comes in under the district's budget of $1,950,000. The original pricing of the project was placed at $2 million, but a reduction of the site from five acres to 3.5 acres brought the price down.

Kelsh told the board ground will be broken on the project the first week of November, with completion to follow in six to seven months, if all goes well.

The new bus barn will be located behind Pineville Primary School. The 9,425-square-foot facility will have a four-bay garage with a pit in one of the bays; a driver area with restrooms, shower and a conference room; and storage for parts and tires.

Superintendent Dr. Mark Stanton noted the bus barn will be paid for out of the capital projects fund, and the district will not have to borrow any money for the project.

"I'm very excited," he said. "It has been very needed. It will be a state-of-the-art facility. Our district is the second largest geographical district in the state. It's 428 square miles. We have over 52 bus routes. And the new facility will help support this."

In other business, the board granted a request by FCCLA students to go to a national meeting in Denver, Colo.
