Mustangs Excel At JROTC Drill Meet

Republic claimed a 25-18, 25-19 win over the McDonald County Lady Mustangs in the opening round of the Missouri Class 4 District 12 Volleyball Tournament on Monday night at Webb City High School.

After the teams traded points early in the first game, McDonald County scored five consecutive points to take an 11-7 lead. Republic responded with seven straight points for a 14-12 lead. McDonald County closed to 15-14 before Republic scored five straight points to take a 20-14 lead to take command of the game.

In the second game, McDonald County took an early 9-7 lead, but Republic scored six straight points for a 13-10 lead. The Lady Tigers stretched their lead to 18-13 before McDonald County closed to 20-18. Republic then scored five of the final six points for the win.

Alex Gross had six kills and eight digs while Lindsey Limore had five kills to lead the Lady Mustangs. Destiny Arnall added 14 assists and six digs while Bailey Rickett had four kills and four service points and Lauren Goff had 13 digs and seven

McDonald County finished its 2016 season with a 15-16 overall record.

East Newton

East Newton handed McDonald County its first Big 8 Conference loss with a 25-17, 25-19 win on Oct. 11 at East Newton High School.

The Lady Patriots trailed 14-13 in the first game before scoring 12 out of final 15 points for the win behind net play of Koty Cooper, Big 8 Player of the Year.

In the second game, East Newton scored six out of seven points to stretch a 11-9 lead into a 17-10 advantage. McDonald County closed to 20-18, but East Newton closed out the match by winning five out of the final six points.

Limore had seven kills while Rickett and Gross had three each to lead McDonald County. Arnall had nine assists, seven digs and five service points while Goff had 12 digs.

McDonald County clamed a 25-19, 22-25, 25-21 win in the junior varsity match and a 25-14, 25-17 win in the freshman match.

Aurora

McDonald County was denied a share of the Big 8 Conference title when Aurora defeated the Lady Mustangs 25-16, 25-18 on Oct. 13 at Aurora High School. The win gave the Lady Houns a 7-0 mark in conference and dropped McDonald County to 5-2.

Gross had five kills and seven digs while Arnall had nine assists, three digs and two kills to lead McDonald County. Goff added 11 digs and Limore had three kills.

Aurora added a 25-19, 25-21 win in the junior varsity match.
