MC Eigth-Grade Girls Lose Season's First Game

The McDonald County eighth-grade girls' basketball team lost its first game of the season after starting off the year with five consecutive wins by dropping a 53-34 decision at Aurora on Nov. 14.

Aurora led just 22-19 at halftime before pulling away in the second half by outscoring McDonald County 31-15 after intermission.

McDonald County was led by Jersey Wolfenbarger with 22 points, including three three-pointers. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Mustangs were Kristin Penn with five points, Laney Wilson four, Mollie Milleson two and Caitlyn Barton one.

McDonald County bounced after its first loss of the season the night before with a 51-2 win over Cassville on Nov. 15 at Pineville Junior High School. Wolfenbarger scored 16 points and Penn 10 to lead McDonald County. Wilson and Lily Allman added five points each while Barton, Milleson and Erin Cooper had four each and Anaily Gonzalez had three.

The Lady Mustangs closed out the week with a 59-19 win over Neosho on Nov. 17 at Neosho. Wolfenbarger scored 26 points and Penn 18 to lead McDonald County. Allman added seven points while Barton had four and Cooper and Sydney Killion two each.

McDonald County is now 7-1 for the season heading into its Nov. 29 game at Joplin East Middle School. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

Seventh Grade

The McDonald County seventh- grade girls defeated Aurora 25-16 on Nov. 14 in Aurora.

McDonald County's Abigail Wiseman led all scorers with 10 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Mustangs were Madison Grider, Nicole Estrada, and Kloe Myers with four points each, Ebenee Munoz two points and Adasyn Leach one.

Cassville built a 22-15 lead after three quarters and hung on to a 29-25 win on Nov. 15 at Anderson Middle School.

McDonald County was led by Estrada with 10 points followed by Myers with eight, Wiseman six and Madeline McCall one.

The seventh grade made it a sweep at Neosho with a 36-19 win behind 13 points from Estrada. Myers added eight points while Wiseman had six, Grider five and Leach four.

McDonald County is now 5-3 heading into its Nov. 29 game at Joplin East. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
