Pineville discusses new playground equipment

The Pineville city council meeting Tuesday began with a discussion regarding the new playground equipment being purchased by the city.

The playground equipment will cost up to $35,000 depending on what the bids will be. Mayor Gregg Sweeten said Melissa Ziemianin, city clerk, has been conducting research regarding the bidding process.

Ziemianin said she found that the playground equipment can be ordered since it is in accordance with the money approved for it.

The playground equipment is available in several colors. The council selected the colors which will fit into the location and surroundings most appropriately.

The council discussed the pest control bid. Sweeten received two bids from pest control companies in the area and provided the council with the amounts of the bids. The council decided that the pest control companies should be contacted to clarify the amounts of their bids and what is covered. The discussion will resume at the next city council meeting.

Alderman Scott Dennis communicated to Marshal Chris Owens that he had received a phone call from a resident who was concerned about a loose pitbull dog near the Pineville Elementary School. Owens said he would check into it.

Sweeten said the recent movie shown at the Square on May 21 was very successful. Ziemianin said approximately 130-140 people attended the movie and $160 was made from the concessions after expenses.

Old Business

Sweeten completed a second reading of Ordinance 16-11. The purpose of this ordinance is "to set forth guiding principles and practices for City of Pineville, Mo. transportation projects to encourage walking, bicycling, and other non-motorized forms of transit, in addition to normal motorized transit, including personal, freight, and public transit vehicles."

The council approved the ordinance.

Chris Tinsley, public works director, said a check valve and a new meter for a well are needed. The total cost for all that is needed is $3,573. The council approved this expenditure.

Chris Owens, marshal, said there are cameras on the law enforcement vehicles and on the officers. Owens said the cameras are very useful.

Bills in the amount of $15,910.64 were discussed and approved.
