Baseball Honors Handed Out

SEVEN SENIORS EARN 4-YEAR-COMMITMENT AWARDS

Seven seniors received four-year commitment awards to highlight the 2016 McDonald County High School baseball awards banquet held on May 20 at MCHS.

Those receiving the four-year awards were Brock Burnett, Emitt Dalton, Mason Hendrix, Jarrett Sanny, Seth Shockley, Dagan Stites and Donovan Taylor.

McDonald County coach Nick Martin recapped the Mustangs' 2016 season, which ended with a 14-15 record after a loss to Joplin in the district tournament.

Martin noted out of the Mustangs' 15 losses, eight came by one run. He said highlights of the season were second place at the Mickey Mantle Wood Bat Tournament and third place at the Harrison Tournament, both all-time best results for McDonald County.

Other awards went to Dalton, highest batting average; Jaime Hanke, Big Stick Award, lowest e.r.a and most strikeouts; Tyler Shaver and Boston Dowd, newcomers of the year; and Charlie Moore, top prospect.

Junior varsity coach Skyler Rawlins presented participation certificates to the junior varsity team, which finished with a 13-11 record. Freshman coach Tyler Shaver noted his team finished with a 12-12 record after starting the season by losing its first eight games.
