Track And Field Wraps Up Conference

Emily High finished in fourth place in three events and Jordan Witt was third in two to lead the McDonald County Lady Mustang track team at the Big 8 Conference Track and Field Championships on May 5 at East Newton High School.

High was fourth in the 800 (2:33.4), 1600 (5:36.4) and 3200 (13:25.0). Emily Sorrell of East Newton won the 800 (2:24.6) and 1600 (5:24.6) while younger sister Kinsey won the 3200 (11:55.8).

Witt was third in the long jump (14-11.75) and triple jump (32-1.75). Taylor Mailes of Seneca won the long jump (16-6.25) while Kaelyn Sturgell of Lamar won the triple jump (33-1.75).

Emily Landers also finished in the top six in two events for the Lady Mustangs, taking sixth in both the discus (85-4.75) and javelin (76-8).

Rounding out the Lady Mustangs' top six finishes were: Cassadi Dowd, fifth, 800, 2:34.7; Chloe Morris, fourth, pole vault, 8-0; and Bailey Rickett, fifth, high jump, 4-6.

Lamar won the girls' team championship with 144 points followed by Carl Junction with 121 points, East Newton 68, Seneca 56, Mount Vernon 48.5, Monett 45.5, McDonald County 33.5, Cassville 20.5 and Aurora 20.

Boys' Division

Elias Gallegos led the McDonald County boys' team by placing in the top six in three events, including second in the javelin with a throw of 142-11. Thomas Ayers of Lamar won the event with a toss of 153-0.

Gallegos added fourth place finishes in the discus (127-5.5) and shot put (42-3).

Miguel Carbajal was third in the discus (137-4) while Elliott Wolfe was fourth in the javelin (129-6). The 4x800 relay team of Jilberto Alejo, Christopher Rubio, Alex Guadarrama and Truman Craig was fourth (9:00.5). Rubio was fourth in the 300 hurdles (45.2), Alejo was fifth in the 400 (53.6) and Guadarrama was sixth in the 1600 (5:04.3).

Shane Russo took fourth in the long jump (19-1.75) and fifth in the triple jump (37-9.5).

Zack Woods led a third and fifth place McDonald County finish in the pole vault. Woods was third by clearing 11-6 while Cole Cooper was fifth (11-0).

Lamar made it a sweep of the team titles by winning the boys' division with 190 points. Carl Junction was second with 102 points followed by East Newton with 77.5 points, Monett 51, Cassville 47, McDonald County 37.5, Mount Vernon 29, Aurora 19 and Seneca 5.

McDonald County's next meet is the Missouri Class 4 District 6 Track and Field Championships on May 14 at Branson High School.
