18U Team Wins Doubleheader

The McDonald County 18U baseball team swept a doubleheader at Seneca on June 16 to improve its record to 6-4 for the season.

Tyler Sellers, Jaime Hanke and Charlie Moore combined to hold Seneca to two runs on seven hits in McDonald County's 5-2 win in the opener.

Sellers worked the first three innings, shutting out Seneca on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Hanke allowed one run on two hits in two innings before Moore got the save by pitching the final two innings, allowing a seventh inning run while being touched for three hits and two walks in his two innings.

McDonald County scored all the runs it would need by scoring three runs in the top of the first. Hanke and Caleb Curtis both had singles while Curtis and Peyton Barton drove in runs.

McDonald County added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on a walk to Moore, singles by Ty Shaver and Emitt Dalton and a two-run double by Hanke.

Curtis had three hits to lead McDonald County's 11-hit attack. Hanke and Shaver added two hits each while Dalton, Barton, Boston Dowd and Jon Martin all had one hit each.

The Nightcap

McDonald County jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the nightcap before having to hold on for a 9-6 win. A.J Madewell started and went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Barton allowed three runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batter and an error in the fourth before Moore pitched a scoreless seventh for his second save of night.

Shaver singled and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Martin in the first. McDonald County added six runs in the second on RBI doubles by Joe Brown and Barton and run scoring singles by Brett Dalton, Shaver and Madewell.

After Seneca got to within 7-6 in the bottom of the fourth, McDonald County scored two runs in the top of the fifth to stretch its lead to 9-6. Singles by Barton and Brett Dalton and two Seneca errors led to a pair of unearned runs.

Hanke, Barton, Brown and Brett Dalton all had two hits to lead McDonald County at the plate.

McDonald County hosted Webb City on June 21 before traveling to Neosho on June 23. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
